Hey all, my name is Thomas, I am PhD Candidate at Swansea University, here I am researching the links between ethnicity and federal states in Greek Antiquity. I am primarily focusing on five regions in Ancient Greece, namely Phocis, Boeotia, Arcadia, Aetolia, and Achaea, within these regions I am especially focusing on even smaller groupings such as polis identity and sub-regional identities. Before my PhD I used to do a lot of political history, but this PhD has opened my eyes to mythography, study of Greek drama, epigraphy, and other fields which help to identity localised identities.
I am hoping to go to Greece and explore the regions I have been studying during my PhD, but all of course depends on the COVID situation. I do not have any publications yet, but I am working on a few things, including one which I may send to New Classicists sometime this autumn. Other than Ancient History/Classics I am reading a lot anthropology, sociology, archaeology, and network theory to make sure I am tracing these identities in the best possible way.
When I am not working on my PhD, I like to go hiking, travelling, visiting art galleries and so on. I just have to say this Global Alliance is a really brilliant idea and looking forward to seeing to expanding.
You can find me on @VikingClassics and https://vikingclassicist.blogspot.com/
Best wishes
Tom.
